LinksBelow are some useful links (K-12) that will assist you along your homeschooling journey. All sites listed are free to use unless otherwise noted. Whether you homeschool with a pre-planned 'curriculum in a box', write your own course of study, or maybe you just need some ideas and inspiration, there are some great sites here for you! Sites are listed randomly within each category and are not ranked in any way.HSHS' #1 Site Recommendation: Grab a cup of tea and get lost in the amazing, massive, and seemingly endless resource that is A-Z Home's Cool, by Ann Zeise. She's an AWESOME webmaster (and just plain nice), and she's has been extremely helpful as we navigate the learning curve of cross browser compatibility and other such 'glitches' online! In addition, her site is a wealth of astounding homeschool resources and knowledge; HSHS encourages everyone to spend as much time there as you can...you'll always learn something new to add to your homeschooling adventure! With scholarship searches, financial aid help, college search information and MUCH more, these folks are AMAZING! They are located right off of 108th and Center in Rockbrook Plaza, and they are very homeschool friendly. También en Español! Number2.com A free online test prep site with help for your ACT/SAT/GRE/Vocab needs. By creating an account you can access a customized course that includes user-friendly tutorials, practice sessions that dynamically adapt to each student's ability level, a vocabulary builder, and more. Excellent site! Top of Page Academic Assessment/Learning Styles How to Learn From their website: We're here to help you learn using your personal learning style; diagnose and solve any learning problem you or your child has. Learning styles determine how you think, how you communicate and even how well you remember things during a written test. HSHS Note: This site also has great articles and a free online learning styles assessment. Learning Styles Online The Memletics learning styles inventory provides you with a guide to your (or your child's) own personal learning styles. By asking a series of questions, and then scoring the results, it indicates which are your dominant and secondary styles. The Memletics learning styles inventory (quiz, questionnaire, test) is free and available on this site. You can do the test online, or download the test in Microsoft Excel or Adobe PDF format. You should only use styles inventories as a general guide to your styles - not as an absolute answer. Bellevue Public Library LearnATest Online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help patrons, students, and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass. You'll get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. If it is your first time using the database, select "New User" and create an account. Regents Exam Test Center This site provides substantial resources for students in the following subject areas: Math, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra2, Trigonometry, Global History, U.S. History, Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, Physics, English, Study Strategies, Reference Library, and Old Regents Exams. Top of Page Course of Study/Scope and Sequence Academic Knowledge and Skills This site gives K - 12 scope and sequence goals, including year end objectives, for every subject. An excellent resource for adding ideas to lesson plans and skill goals. Comprehensive Scope and Sequence K-12 This site features a huge amount of information on what a child 'should' be learning at each level, K-12th grade. As with all scope and sequence guides, please take what works for your individual student and leave the rest. It's a great site and well organized, but extremely overwhelming for anyone to attempt all at once! It also gives a scope and sequence for learning about the Saints in the Catholic Church, for those interested in that topic as well. Top of Page Language Arts Hoagies Reading Lists Technically compiled for gifted students, this webpage showcases a huge number of various reading lists of all ages and interest categories. Fantastic! Reading Evaluation Assessment Test This is an excellent site for a simple to use, free and fairly in depth reading assessment. It gives specific information about a learner's phonics and reading comprehension levels, and provides quick results and suggestions for help. Phonics aptitude test section created by expert reading teacher and speech pathologist Jim Larrabee, the Digital Teacher on My Reading Coach software. It's much more engaging and individualized than paper-based tests, easy to use, and valid for grades 2 through 10 reading levels. Dr. Grammar The Dr. Grammar Frequently Asked Questions page contains answers to questions that may provide help with your grammar questions. The questions are listed alphabetically, so they can be searched quickly and easily. Browse through the list of questions from the list below to find help on your topic English-Zone Everything you never wanted to know about English! Easy to navigate and tons of information, this is a great site. Learn 2 Type Whether you're a typing expert or just a "hunt & peck" beginner, the interactive exercises in this Typing Tutor automatically adjust to your skill level. The better you get, the more challenging the Typing exercises become. You can come and go as you please and pick up the Typing lesson where you left off. Top of Page Math AlgebraHelp Begin by reading a lesson, then find help with your homework using the step-by-step calculators. Test your knowledge using interactive worksheets. Best of all, it's free! Math.com From basic math to calculus, this site has lessons, problems, online calculators and step by step tutorials to make math less confusing for everyone. Amazing site! Top of Page Science Scientific American Frontiers A PBS series, Scientific American Frontiers explores cutting edge science as it's breaking the barriers of technology. With online episodes available, each program is accompanied by an online teaching guide filled with science activities. The guides are presented in an easy-to-print format, and educators are encouraged to download and photocopy these materials. The Virtual Body This is an EXCELLENT multimedia presentation of human anatomy! With audio narration and visual interaction, parents and students alike will learn quite a bit here! También en Español! Chem4Kids This is NOT your typical 'online help' site. WOW! With every chemistry topic imaginable, this site offers clear and comprehensive information to supplement your science adventures, or even stand on it's own as a fantastic one stop chemistry course. Experiment of the Week He's been on the web for years and is an icon in homeschool communities oaround the world. He's Robert Krampf and you can sign up to recieve his weekly science experiments in your email, or visit his site to do them on your own. His lessons reach over 180 THOUSAND families in over 95 countries each week!!! Top of Page Social Studies NewsHour Extra For Teens Stay on top of current news and events with resources and lesson plans for educators and interactive elements for teens. With topics ranging from English, Arts, Science, Math, Economics, World & U.S. History, Government, Health, Fitness, and Media there are endless places to explore and learn. Also offers essay and writing contests and submissions. National Geographic As always, National Geographic does everything extremely well. From online videos, in depth articles...this site is everything you could possibly learn about the world around us!
