Homeschool High School Graduation
Information
Required vs. Optional:

We
believe that the many offerings of HSHS provide an excellent
opportunity for
students and their families to gain a valuable and rewarding experience
within
the homeschool community. That being said, it is entirely possible
there are
schedule conflicts or a family simply may not feel an event is a ‘good
fit’ for
their student. HSHS COMPLETELY
respects your right to make that
decision
and we make every effort to encourage flexibility within the
expectations.
Every effort has been made to reduce the number of meetings. The
only
required
events to participate in the graduation ceremony are the graduation
rehearsal(s)
and the graduation ceremony. We hope this helps make the
entire process
much
easier for everyone involved!
Financial Requirements:

1.
The total cost
of
graduation is estimated at $130 per senior, and we hope that is a
generous, not
a conservative, estimate. Payment deadlines are the October meeting and
the
January meeting. Families can pay in full at the October meeting, or
split the
payments in half (two payments of $65). Any additional expenses will be
agreed
upon as a group, and alternatives to increasing the cost will be
discussed,
before any additional money is required.
Security Deposit:

2.
After several
long
discussions within the graduation committee, we have decided to forgo
the idea
of a security deposit. It is against the HSHS philosophy to ‘force’
folks to
participate in anything that doesn’t fit with their family or schedule.
Therefore it is not in continuity with HSHS to require a security
deposit. We
realize your family is participating because this event is an
important,
valuable experience. It is our conclusion that families will
participate as
much, or as little, as necessary to get the experience they are looking
for. Seniors that are looking for social
events to
connect with one another are encouraged to join in with HSHS events
that are
already planned, or to network during the graduation meetings to plan
additional events/activities together.
Creative Expression Piece

1. We realize
that each
senior is unique, with individual skills and talents that span well
beyond giving
a speech. Therefore, each senior is strongly encouraged to present a
creative
expression piece of their choice at the graduation ceremony. This can
be a piece
that is authored personally by the student, or simply a creative piece
that is
important to them (provided adequate credit is given to the original
author)
such as a speech, poem, essay, song, etc. Seniors are not required to
give a
creative expression piece; however approval from the senior’s parents
is
necessary to ‘opt out’ of participating.
Inspirational Verse
Top Of Page
1.
Each senior is
asked to
provide a verse of personal inspiration for use at the graduation
ceremony.
This can be a verse of any origin whether biblical, historical etc. as
long as
the author is able to be properly credited.
Meeting Dates:

The next
meeting date will be Monday October 22nd from 7-9 PM at Immanuel
Lutheran Church located on Galvin Road in Bellevue. The first payment
of $65 is due at this meeting. Stay tuned for information on specific
topics that will be discussed and voted on by parents and students!
The Appeals Process:

We
don’t expect this to be a concern, but if there is a disagreement that
is
unable to be resolved, we think it’s important for families to have a
constructive alternative. The fappeals process is detailed in the
Parent Information Packet.
